Hi there,
American born, Doreen has been raising animals her whole life, starting with guinea pigs at 10 years old. Her father, Henry, was very pleased he didn't have to buy another horse like he did for her sisters.
She sold the guinea pigs to pet stores in Portland, Oregon.
As a teenager Doreen went to visit her oldest sister in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
There she met a young Canadian. His name was Hugh and he changed her sister's flat tire!
He was a prairie boy and was raised near Pollockville.
Later the young couple came to Sheerness, Alberta to clean Hughs Dad's barn. They stayed and bought to last house in the tiny hamlet of Rose Lynn, in Sept 1972.
Over the years Doreen raised horses, goats, and mini Donkeys, all purebred and all registered.
After researching different dog breeds for a year, four Shiba Inus, were purchased from Holly Spangler in August 1999. Doreen also, would like to thank Laura Lange for beautiful Koyotes Misha, who became Smilingbears foundation female.
